Anne-Sophie Mutter’s Vivaldi record featuring Karajan: The four seasons of 1984 on Vinyl.
It is a recording that broke records: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, recorded in 1984 with the Vienna Philharmonic with Herbert von Karajan on the lectern and harpsichord, achieved platinum status as the first classical album ever.
The CD of the records has long taken its place in the Hall of Fame of legendary recordings. Now she also gains the vinyl dignity!
It was two days in June 1984, when Vivaldi’s seasons sounded in the time-honored ceremony hall of the Vienna Hofburg.
No one would have believed in the later record at the time. But that it was a special recording was clear to all involved: the young violinist, at the time almost 21 years old, had been discovered years before by Herbert von Karajan.
After recordings with works by Mozart and romantic virtuoso works, the four baroque concerts should show a new side of the artist who was just about to reach the first zenith of her international career.
The diverse naturalistic descriptions in it – such as birdsongs, roaring storms and cheerful festivals – offered Anne-Sophie Mutter completely new possibilities of musical expression. Their extremely passionate performance of these stories from the year round laid the foundation for a Vivaldi mania that has continued unbroken ever since.
